the missing post

And the weekend!

So I have learned a few things about the students in the past few day.  1.  Kirk can dance.  2. Devyn asks a few questions. 3. Aboubacar has changed his name to Fabalishous. 4. Sashira is as good a bowler as I am and Kaylee is right there with us. 5. Haley is adept at making animal noises. 6. planking is NOT cool in Germany. 7. Daniel does NOT like to have his picture taken.  I think it is safe to say we have gotten off to a pretty good start.

Everyone seemed to get a good nights sleep and enjoyed morning hugs-  Well, almost everyone.  We had a tour through the city center, enjoyed a moment of quiet inside Saint Mary's Cathedral. Yesterday was a first as we all held hands and made it through the narrowest street in the world. Later we went bowling which is one of the first great geling activities for the students to get to know one another.  By the end of the day, most of the students seemed fairly comfortable with their partners and with their surroundings.  We closed the bowling alley with a massive conga line.  In the end, there was only one pair of shoes left over.  I guess Justin thought the bowling shoes were Euro Styling and thought he would trade in his sneaks.  After switching them back, they were let loose with their new families for the night.

Today was a full day with a Medieval focus.  First stop was a raptor show.  Eagles, Vultures, Owls, Caracara's and the like literally beat us over the head as they flew past.  I believe Ray may have brought a change of underclothing or perhaps needed a new set.  The birds were amazing, and the weather was spot on. We then hustled back to the bus and headed to the walled city of Roethenburg.  Here we toured the criminal museum, saw torture and punishment devices.  Perfect for this group!  The teachers have made a long list of things to try when the going gets tough!

Students then had free time to tour the town, walk the wall, find a schneeball, a wamplingtinger (god knows how to spell that!)  They were asked to take a series of group photos at several key spots in the town.  Most succeeded and from what I saw took some fabulous pictures.

This weekend is a long weekend for the families.  There is no school on Monday.  Some are headed to the Black Forest, to Munich, to I think Austria, Boden Sea, Stuttgart.  The adventures are always fun to hear!
