Dachau

Yesterday was a somber overcast and coolish day.  The weather fit the mood and added to the experience of visiting Dachau. The students were moved, some to tears, some to hand holding , and most to reflection about our history and present life. We toured the memorial sight with a Weally Weally good guide.  She spoke of Wegistwation, Wewease and Pwisonew's life. All diction aside, she was very informative and painted a picture that included propaganda as well as reality.  We visted actual building and reproductions and viewed a very powerful film.

Discussions on the way home, included references to slavery in the US, current gang situations, and reflection of how this event is similar and different to our current lives.  We look forward to journal entries and reflections about yesterday's trip.

This morning we met for a guided tour of Reutlingen University.  Here we saw textile and engineering facilities and learned a bit about Germany's place in the industrial world.  Duggan pulled out a few population facts that impressed many of us - although he was off by 10 million !

This weekend most students spent family time visiting the infamous castle on a hill (Hollenzorn (sp?)) Jade wore slippers but no cape. Many went shopping in Stuttgart and Manny is still looking for the illusive Che.

We all attended an art opening . Michelle was visited by her brother Rolando, who is studying in Marbech.

Everyone has pretty well bonded with each other and homesickness is waning. We are off to Bake Brezels...
