Our flight was relativly uneventful. A tiny cramped plane with 22 pink shirts loaded in the back of the plane. 5 lucky outsiders tucked around us - Austin drew the short straw and sat with a mom and dad type, the dad being taller than Austin! We had a fair amount of turbulance and flew with our seatbelt signs lit most of the way. Immigration and customs were a breeze- although the second string of baggage was pretty slow to appear which made me a little bit nervous.
Move onto the bus and walking out into the fresh German air- Cigarette smoking still catches me off guard. The students first impression is aways cars - Stuttgart is home to the Mercedes Benz and there are plenty of nice cars to be seen. After a half an hour of luxery bus travel, and yes we did all buckle our seatbelts, we arrived in Reutlingen. Our host families were all gathered promptly awaiting our arrival at the bus depot and within 20 minutes everyone had disappeared to settle in and STAY AWAKE for the next 10 hours. Martinez and my host kept the chaperones moving and walking through the city center area. We ate lunch and played eye spy with several students in town- Isis, Lyl, Cammie, Amanda and Rochelle as well as German students from previous exchanges.
So now the witching hour and the green light to finally go to sleep after a very long day of hurry up and wait. Most of us got a cat nap on the plane of 3 hours or so and are looking forward to a restful night after being awake well over 24 hours.
Tomorrow we will put on our pink shirts again for a welcome reception at the Rathaus and video being made especially for the Reading Liederkranz and then bowling.
