Our last weekend in Germany. Thursday was Reunification day and we all enjoyed a long weekend. Friday we met for a sports event and barbeque. The students all crowded on a public bus and took off for archery. Most students had never shot a bow and arrow before. luckily no one was hurt! Lyl, or Schtinky, shot a bullseye as did several other students. We spent several hours just chilling in the sunshine and then cooking sausages around a campfire. Full bellies and good comraderie filled out the afternoon.
In the evening we met at the keppie for our farewell dinner. What a spread! Frickadellie, Schneckes, Salads and desserts all supplied by the host families. I think everyone ate enough to last at least until today.
But the highlight of the farewell dinner is always the kids. Leaving Rochelle, or Ro-Money, in charge made sure we were all entertained. After gathering all the students up on stage to dance the macerana and a variety of dances, the students offered testamonials to their experiences. Austin, Lyl, Astrid, Juan, Vanessa, in tears, 2 German girls, and of course Rochelle gave thanks, brought tears and made us laugh.Rochelle and Amanda closed out the evening with a rap that hit the nail on the head.
We said our goodbyes and left the students to enjoy the rest of their weekend with their families spending euros and hoping that their bags are not overweight!
We depart in the morning at 645 for a long day of hurry up and wait. Most students are sad to leave but will be happy to be home.
