Strasbourg

Yesterday we took our first long excursion to Strasbourg France. We boarded the bus at the early hour or 7 am and meandered our way through the hairpin turns through the Black Forest. Thankfully no one was car sick this year. Crossing the boarder is uneventful but it was evident when we listened we were no longer in Germany. It was a beautiful day especially as our last trip to the city the weather was far from cooperative. The group walked from the bus station to the Notre Dame Cathedral where we met for a short tour. Our guide spoke with a Classic French accent. Difficult for some to understand. He told the students to disregard the facade of the building as it was not terribly old and therefore not important.
The interior is always impressive with the stained glass - think Monument Men- and impressive connection between Romanesque and Gothic architecture. After the cathedral tour, we treked down to an open boat and had a audio tour of the highlights of the city. The weather was perfect and sunny and wonderful. After the boat tour we enjoyed free time to shop, eat, eat, and walk a little through the city.
I think the students are enjoying their time. A few suffer from a little bit of homesickness and growing pains of making new friends. This weekend they are on their own for the most part. Tomorrow we will see them at the artist opening and Monday it is off the Dauchau and Munich.
