Nightmare on the Necar

Wednesday morning we met at the train station for our trip to Tubingen. First stop was the DAI or German American institute. The students played games and spent time discussing some inter-cultural differences. This is always a great interactive activity that gets the students talking with each other.
Afterwards we crossed the street and loaded the punt boats for a river tour. We had two boats. A quiet ride and not so quiet ride. I can only speak to the not so quiet one. Our "driver" had the kind of gravely voice that could only come from smoking way too much. His English was great and his sense of humor was even better. Once we began rocking the boat he informed us there were several levels we could "play." Level 1 a gentle sway up to level 4 where we would take on water. He then , in his traveling voice, put on his sunglasses and said "welcome to nightmare on the Necar!" Ana/Emma squealed the entire ride and Jailynn insisted she could swim but did not want to get her hair wet. Miguel tried to knock Slater into the water by running him into branches- Mario applied for a job and Jailynn proved that she could also drive the boat! A good time had by all.
We then had free time in the beautiful town before loading the group back onto the train to Reutlingen.
