First Day of School

Welcome to the German School System!  Today was the first day that RHS students attended their respective schools with their German counterparts.  The most talked-about item was the time between classes--they couldn't believe that German students had more than 3 minutes!  After receiving a tour of their schools from the headmasters, students and their German counterparts (along with the teachers) were invited to an official welcome reception at the Reutlingen town hall.  After the reception, students returned to their host student's school to conclude the school day.
After school, all the members of the exchange program met to bowl!  Yes, you read that right: bowling in Germany! After a few frantic moments of unknown shoe sizes (mostly by Ms. Dysart, who was a little unsure of how a size 2 in kids converted), we were off to the excitement on the lanes.  This was a new experience for many of the students.  Mykala, a student studying abroad this semester from Albright, joined the chaperones for some cutthroat bowling. Mr. Hudak lied to everyone, claiming he was "bad at bowling." He is a definitely a ringer, because he finished second overall.  Yomari asked him for some advice bowling.  His response: "Aim it down the middle, between the brown things."  Some people never stop teaching.
I'm proud to say that Reading took 3 of the top 5 spots: having the bowling team at the High must have rubbed off on us.  Jailynne was the best RHS student bowler after our first complete game. The lowest score was a 9, and it will not be disclosed whether it was a German or an American with that score.
After bowling, the students were given free time to enjoy the evening with their host families.  So far, we have seen nothing but smiles all around!
